During an impact, the MIPS system absorbs the energy of the impact by slightly rotating the helmet on the head. Rotational forces will thus be better dissipated and the brain will not hit against the skull, thus being better protected against oblique impacts .
Helmets are made up of two separate parts . One is attached to the skull, the "inner" layer, which is attached to the second, the "outer" layer, which provides protection on impact. The attachment between the two layers provides some freedom of movement for the head.
We focus on helmet comfort, weight, and ventilation. The helmet is a little heavier than a standard helmet, but it is only a few dozen grams. The weight difference is not noticeable during use. The ventilation is largely as effective, if not more, than on a standard helmet.
